Iraqi forces celebrated the withdrawal of US troops toward Jordan after a ceasefire was reached. The ceasefire was conditioned on the US not attacking Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) positions in Samara and Karbala.

A PMF spokesman declared: If you return, we return. We made hell for infidels. The US and NATO fully withdrew from most Iraqi regions, with small contingents remaining under Kurdish control in the north.

The NATO withdrawal took place between March 20 and 23.
