The Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran was struck in an attack on March 17, marking the first recorded hit on the facility since the conflict began. According to Rosatom, the attack occurred near the meteorological service of the facility, close to the active energy reactor.

No employees were injured and radiation levels remain normal, the Russian nuclear agency reported. Previously, Rosatom had reduced staff at reactor units 2 and 3, evacuating around 250 employees and their family members.

Currently, around 480 people remain on site, and a third evacuation is being prepared. "The safety of human lives is our absolute priority," Rosatom stated.

The agency strongly condemned attacks on active nuclear facilities, describing them as a "flagrant disregard" for international safety principles. Rosatom called for urgent de-escalation around Bushehr, warning that any strike on a nuclear plant could cause catastrophic consequences.

The attack heightens concerns about nuclear safety in the region, especially as the conflict between Iran and the Western coalition continues to escalate.
