Chaos in Greece: Taxi Drivers on Indefinite Strike, Airports Blocked

Greece is gripped by serious transport chaos after taxi drivers launched an indefinite strike. Major cities, especially Athens and Thessaloniki, face enormous traffic congestion.

The strike is a response by unions to new legal regulations and tax reforms the government plans to introduce in the taxi sector. Access to airports, ports, and railway stations has become significantly more difficult for residents and tourists.

"We will not back down until the measures leading to our bankruptcy are withdrawn. This strike will continue until our demands are met," the Athens taxi drivers' union stated.

The drivers' main complaints focus on high fuel prices, competition from transport platforms, and new fiscal rules they describe as unsustainable.

Greek authorities are appealing for patience, but no new negotiations between government representatives and the taxi drivers' union have been announced, suggesting the blockades could last for an extended period.
