Beijing carefully commented on its role in the recently reached ceasefire between Iran and the United States, even though the White House confirmed that intensive talks had been conducted at the highest diplomatic level between American and Chinese representatives.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing had been actively working on resolving the conflict from the very beginning. "As a responsible major power, China will continue to play a constructive role and contribute to the restoration of peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East," she said.

The White House confirmed that intensive high-level talks had been held with Beijing over the past two days, parallel to the ceasefire negotiations with Tehran. President Trump previously hinted that China played a certain role in encouraging Iranian participation in the negotiations.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry published a chart documenting 26 phone calls for peace that Minister Wang Yi had held with counterparts around the world since hostilities began. The move is part of a broader initiative by President Xi Jinping to strengthen Chinese influence on global security issues.

Beijing is considered a significant potential actor in the peace process due to its diplomatic and economic ties with Tehran, as well as its close cooperation with Pakistan, which may host the next peace negotiations.
