The price of diesel in the European Union jumped by 30 percent, and gasoline by 15 percent since the escalation of the Middle East crisis at the end of February, according to the latest fuel data in the Union.

The average price of diesel in the EU is 2.076 euros per liter, and Eurosuper 95 gasoline - 1.871 euros per liter. The most expensive diesel is in the Netherlands (2.46 euros), and the cheapest in Malta (1.21 euros).

Taxes make up 52.1 percent of the price of gasoline and 44.6 percent of the price of diesel on average across the EU.

Macedonia remains below the European average in fuel prices, but domestic consumers also feel the increases. Price differences between member states remain enormous, pointing to different tax policies and levels of dependence on Russian oil.
