The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning announced the introduction of a digital polluter registry that will collect standardized data on pollutant emissions, energy and water consumption, raw material use and waste transport.

Minister Muamet Hodza explained that this represents "a mechanism for increased accountability of all holders of integrated environmental permits", not just a technical solution. Companies will self-report their monitoring data, which will be verified through inspections.

The new Law on the Environment is expected to take effect in 2027, establishing the legal framework for the registry. The system will align with EU standards for environmental reporting and enable Macedonia to meet requirements for EU accession negotiations.

Environmental organizations welcomed the initiative but warned that the system's effectiveness depends on rigorous verification and penalties for false reporting.
