A doctor from Brčko buried the bones of Srebrenica genocide victims in his yard, but there will be no investigation - both competent prosecutors' offices have determined that the absolute statute of limitations has expired.
Skeletal remains found in the yard of Dr. Nebojša Mraović were identified as belonging to genocide victims. Both the BiH Prosecutor's Office and the Brčko District Prosecutor's Office concluded that criminal proceedings cannot be initiated.
The Association of Families of Missing and Murdered Bosniaks condemned the decision. Association president Sead Golić called it "unforgivable for the prosecutor's office" and argued that war crimes should not be subject to statutes of limitation.
Despite everything, Mraović continued practicing medicine. The Medical Chamber of Republika Srpska renewed his licence in December 2024. He claims he used the bones for "planning operations."
