The leader of the Independent Social Democrats and former president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, criticized Croatia for what he called "abuse of border control mechanisms."

Dodik expressed concern about the treatment of citizens from Republika Srpska at Croatian borders, stating he would not allow "people to become victims of political and ideological battles within Croatia." He warned that if such practices continue, he would seek reciprocal measures.

The statement followed the detention of Drasko Stanivukovic, the mayor of Banja Luka and Dodik's political rival, at the Stara Gradiska border crossing. Stanivukovic arrived on Monday evening and was detained for refusing a luggage search. He received two misdemeanor citations totaling 390 euros and was released the following day around 1 PM.

Stanivukovic's border problems stem from a speech at the Svetosavska Academy in Gracac in late January, where he mentioned and praised the self-proclaimed Republic of Serbian Krajina. His statements, including claims that "this land is ours," were perceived as provocative in Croatia.

The Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs condemned the comments, emphasizing that all visitors must respect Croatian sovereignty.
