Seven people were arrested over the weekend for domestic violence in several cities across Macedonia, in a wave of incidents that alarmed authorities.
Three people were arrested in Skopje. In two cases, the incidents involved physical altercations between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law in the Bit Pazar neighborhood - a 41-year-old woman attacked her 66-year-old mother-in-law, while in another case a 66-year-old woman attacked her daughter-in-law with a hard object. A third person, a 46-year-old woman, was arrested for attacking her 27-year-old daughter.
In Drachevo, a 56-year-old man was arrested for physically attacking his wife. In Kavadarci, a 48-year-old man attacked and threatened his 74-year-old father, while a 40-year-old man attacked his former wife.
In Strumica, a 27-year-old man was arrested for attacking his wife, while in Gostivar a 30-year-old woman was detained following a report by her 73-year-old mother-in-law.
Criminal complaints have been filed with the relevant public prosecutor in all cases.
