The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned that Earth is retaining record amounts of heat, creating a dangerous energy imbalance.

The planet is receiving more energy from the Sun than it is emitting back into space.

The consequences are severe: ocean warming, ice sheet melting, rising sea levels, and increasingly extreme weather events.

Emissions reduction measures currently in place fall far below what is needed to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
