On the occasion of Macedonian Engineers Day, Transport Minister Bozinovska stressed that engineering is the foundation of the state, while Engineering Institution president Andrej Lepavcov expressed serious concern about the declining number of civil engineers.

"The number of civil engineers has declined alarmingly and this will be felt in the delivery of capital projects," warned Lepavcov. He noted that Macedonia has excellent engineering talent that is currently fully engaged on state projects, including those with Bechtel and Enka.

The main challenge is retaining talent. Working conditions and financial compensation are key factors determining whether young engineers stay or emigrate. While IT, mechanical and electrical engineering maintain stronger enrollment, civil engineering admissions have dropped significantly.

Lepavcov called for better salaries, professional development opportunities and recognition of engineering expertise to encourage talented professionals to remain in the country.
