From April 10, the full implementation of the European Entry/Exit System (EES) begins, introducing a new, digitalized method of recording and controlling citizens traveling for short stays at the external borders of the European Union.

With the introduction of the system, entries and exits will be recorded electronically, and basic biometric data will be processed - fingerprints and photographs - for faster identification and monitoring of permitted stays under the "90 days within a 180-day period" rule.

The Interior Ministry announced that the border police has taken all necessary measures and activities to ensure fast and smooth passenger flow at border crossings.

The system applies to citizens of non-EU countries, including Macedonia. Waiting times at border crossings for EU entry are expected to increase, but police promise increased engagement to maintain throughput.
