Macedonia's food safety agency has blocked approximately 50 tons of food products from entering the country after border inspections revealed they did not meet required safety standards.

The intercepted shipments included 27 tons of beef imported from Paraguay and 22 tons of nuts originating from Kazakhstan. Both consignments were stopped at the border and ordered returned to their countries of origin.

Inspectors at the border crossing identified multiple violations in the documentation and quality of the products. The food agency emphasized that the interceptions demonstrate the effectiveness of the country's border control systems in protecting public health.

Officials said the cases highlight the importance of rigorous import controls, particularly during a period of global supply chain disruption when some traders may attempt to move substandard products into new markets. The agency urged importers to ensure full compliance with Macedonian and EU-aligned food safety standards before attempting to bring products into the country, warning that enforcement will remain strict.
