Greece and Spain Reject Trump: We Will Not Participate in the Strait of Hormuz

Greece will not participate in any military operations in the Strait of Hormuz, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis announced, following US requests to international partners for help in restoring transit.

Greek naval engagement remains limited to the EU's "Aspides" operation, a defensive mission to protect commercial ships in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks. "Greece does not participate and will not participate in any operations in the Strait of Hormuz. Greece has no intention of joining the current conflict," Marinakis stated.

Spain also refused to participate in a military mission in the strait.

As a country with one of the largest commercial fleets in the world, particularly oil tankers, Greece has recommended that shipowners bypass the strait and carefully assess risks until security conditions improve.

The prolonged conflict is disrupting energy markets and intensifying inflationary pressures as crude oil prices rise and supply chains remain disrupted.
