Greek authorities seized nearly 43 kilograms of hashish on a beach on the island of Rhodes, with an estimated street value of 320,000 euros.
The operation was conducted following a precise tip-off, with a package of processed cannabis resin found on the shore. The Greek coast guard coordinated the drug seizure operations.
Authorities are investigating how the drugs ended up on the beach. One theory is that the package was thrown from a ship to avoid inspection, after which sea currents carried it ashore.
This is not the first case of drugs found on Greek shores - similar incidents are noted periodically, especially on islands in the Aegean Sea that lie along smuggling routes from the Middle East and North Africa.
