Iran: Strait of Hormuz Not Closed to All - Selective Ship Passage

Iran's state news agency reported that 15 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz within 24 hours with Iranian approval. Traffic remains roughly 90 percent below pre-war levels.

Iranian representatives claim the strait is not completely closed, but selectively restricted for "hostile nations." Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araghchi repeatedly stated that passage operates on a selective basis, with Iraq reportedly receiving an exemption to use this vital maritime route.

Iranian authorities are considering introducing transit fees for passage through the strait. A presidential adviser suggested that the Strait of Hormuz could become fully accessible once transit revenues begin to compensate for war damages.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important maritime chokepoints in the world, through which a significant portion of global oil transport passes. Any restriction on navigation directly affects global energy prices.
