Iran: Kharg Island operating normally! American attack did not stop oil exports

Iranian authorities claim that operations on Kharg Island - through which Iran exports 90 percent of its oil - continue normally despite US military strikes. "Export and import operations, along with the activities of companies on the island, are proceeding normally," said Deputy Governor Ehsan Jahanian.

No casualties were reported in the strikes, though some military installations and the airport suffered damage. The Iranian side claims that life on the island continues uninterrupted and daily activities proceed normally.

Why is Kharg Island so strategically important? Located only 43 km from the mainland in the Persian Gulf, the island features deep waters that accommodate large oil tankers. Between 1.3 and 1.6 million barrels pass through it daily, with 18 million barrels of reserves stored there. Iran produces a total of 4.5 percent of global oil supply.

In parallel, the Iranian military command threatened attacks on UAE positions, claiming that US forces struck Kharg Island from there. A fire broke out at the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates following an intercepted drone.
