Iran has selected a new supreme leader, but the official public announcement is still awaited. Ahmad Alamolhoda, a member of the Assembly of Experts — the constitutional body responsible for selecting the country's highest religious and political authority — confirmed that the selection has been made, but that the public statement has been delayed.

"The selection has been made, but the official announcement is still for later," Alamolhoda stated. Responsibility for informing the public has been assumed by Hossein Bushehri, the Secretary of the Assembly of Experts. The identity of the newly selected leader and the timeline for the announcement are not yet known.

Before the final agreement, the process was marked by disputes. Assembly member Ayatollah Mohamamdmehdi Mirbaqeri had previously stated that an agreement was "almost reached," but that certain "obstacles" still needed to be overcome. The main dispute concerned procedure — whether the final decision requires a physical session or can be made without one.

The death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has heightened geopolitical concerns, and the international community is watching closely as his successor is selected — a figure who will shape Iran's future positions in the ongoing conflict with Israel and the United States.
