Iran rebukes Zelensky: Ukraine's support of Israel made it a legitimate military target

An Iranian envoy stated that Ukraine now represents a legitimate target of Iran's armed forces due to its support for Israel during the ongoing conflict. Ibrahim Azizi claims that Ukraine "de facto entered the war" by supplying drones to Israel.

"By providing drone support to the Israeli regime, failing Ukraine has actually joined the war," said Azizi, adding that Ukrainian territory has thus become a "legitimate target" under international law. He cited Article 51 of the UN Charter on the right to self-defense.

President Zelensky previously publicly supported Israel and expressed concern about Iran supplying missiles and drones that were subsequently used in the conflict. This strained relations between Kyiv and Tehran, which were already delicate in the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Political analysts warn that such a statement represents a significant expansion of Iran's rhetoric and shows how interconnected the global geopolitical picture has become.
