The Israeli army announced that it destroyed overnight a plane used by Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran.

According to Israeli defense forces sources, the plane served to transport high-ranking Iranian officials and military commanders on both domestic and international trips. The plane was also used for coordination with Iranian allies.

The strike was carried out during nighttime operations by Israeli forces.

Mehrabad Airport is one of the oldest aviation facilities in Tehran, currently serving domestic and regional flights. The facility has a dual purpose — functioning as the busiest airport for domestic routes while also housing operational capabilities of the Iranian air force.

This combination of civilian and military functions makes Mehrabad a strategically significant location in Iran's military infrastructure.
