Israeli Soldiers Abused Palestinian, Everything Recorded, No Charges Filed

The Israeli military prosecution withdrew charges against five soldiers in the "Sde Teiman" case due to insufficient evidence and procedural violations.

The public learned about the case after an Israeli TV channel broadcast footage from the Sde Teiman military base in southern Israel in August 2024. In the footage, reservists escort a detainee and surround him with shields to block the view while allegedly beating him and inflicting injuries. The detainee was later treated for severe injuries — broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and internal damage.

The incident occurred on July 5, 2024, during a search operation at the detention facility. The detained person was later released in Gaza in October through a prisoner exchange with Hamas.

Defense Minister Israel Katz met with unit members and apologized for the "injustice inflicted," ordering their return to active duty.

The chief military prosecutor ordered the withdrawal of charges due to "the complexity of existing evidence." Prime Minister Netanyahu welcomed the decision, describing the previous proceedings as unfounded accusations against soldiers fighting enemies.
