Pilots of the German airline Lufthansa are entering a two-day strike, causing significant disruptions to air traffic across Europe.

The strike covers pilots of the main company, as well as Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa CityLine, and began immediately after midnight, lasting for the next 48 hours. Within the Eurowings subsidiary, all flights from German airports will be affected throughout today.

Delays or cancellations of hundreds of flights are expected, with the key transport hubs in Frankfurt and Munich set to be the hardest hit. This is the fourth wave of protests within the corporation since the beginning of the current year.

Last week, a one-day strike by cabin crew resulted in mass flight cancellations.

The strike is organized by the Vereinigung Cockpit union and focuses on issues regarding salaries, pension insurance and compensation within the CityLine subsidiary. Passengers with flight reservations from Germany are advised to check the status of their flights.
