An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck eastern Turkey's Van province on the morning of April 4. According to Turkey's disaster management agency AFAD, the epicenter was in the Tushba district, recorded at 8:52 local time at a depth of seven kilometres.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage, though field assessments continued. The quake was felt in neighbouring provinces.

This seismic event comes more than three years after the catastrophic 2023 earthquakes that killed more than 50,000 people. Turkey is one of the most seismically active countries in the region.
