Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski announced that conditions have been met to reduce fuel excise taxes - diesel by 4 denars, and petrol by 2 denars per litre. A cabinet session has been scheduled for tomorrow at 11am to adopt the measures.
Mickoski explained that oil markets closed for the Easter holidays and calculations showed that without intervention diesel would have risen by around 7 denars and petrol by 1.5 to 2 denars. With the excise reduction, the expected diesel price rise will be only around 3 denars.
In parallel, the government is negotiating with supplier Okta on maintaining a 3-denar discount on diesel. Reduced VAT on fuel at 10 percent continues for two more weeks. The measure will cost the budget tens of millions of euros, but Mickoski stressed that sufficient funds are available.
