At least 66 people died in a Hercules C-130 military transport plane crash in southern Colombia, shortly after takeoff from a base in the Amazon region near the Peruvian border. Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez said the exact number of casualties and causes are still to be determined. About 110 military personnel were aboard. The crash occurred 3 km from an urban center. Rescue teams have been dispatched. This is one of the deadliest military air disasters in Colombia in recent decades.
