Montenegro today provisionally closed Chapter 21 — trans-European networks — in its EU membership negotiations, at an intergovernmental conference in Brussels.
This is the second chapter closed during the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the EU. Previously, in January, Chapter 32 on financial oversight was closed.
Following this closure, Montenegro has nineteen more of the total thirty-three chapters to complete before finishing the membership process.
Montenegrin authorities previously stated they aim to close all negotiating chapters by the end of this year, creating conditions for finalizing the accession process by 2028.
Chapter 21 relates to the transport infrastructure of trans-European networks, which in Montenegro's case primarily involves the development and modernization of railway transport.
