The Energy Regulatory Commission will announce new fuel prices in Macedonia today. The decision depends on global crude oil prices and the dollar exchange rate.
Crude oil recently surpassed the 100-dollar-per-barrel mark and is currently trading at $105. Last week the country experienced a "drastic increase in gasoline and especially diesel prices" - diesel rose by 14.5 denars and gasoline by 5 denars per liter.
In response to market pressure, OKTA AD Skopje offered retailers a discount of 2 denars per liter on diesel and gasoline. However, Makpetrol AD Skopje assessed that the reduction is insufficient and does not address the underlying issues.
Retailers and consumers are calling for government intervention to stabilize prices, as volatile global oil benchmark prices continue to put pressure on the domestic market.
