One in six Germans has changed or postponed travel plans due to global instability, according to research from the German Institute for Tourism. The study surveyed more than 1,100 respondents between 25 and 30 March.
Among those who changed plans, 46 percent abandoned travel entirely, while 32 percent cancelled existing bookings. Institute director Julian Reif emphasised that "going on holiday is not apolitical" - the political conditions of a destination increasingly influence travel decisions.
Two-thirds of respondents consider political stability important or very important when choosing a destination, and 79 percent would avoid regions affected by political unrest.
Despite this, 72 percent of Germans still plan to travel between April and June - domestically or abroad.
