Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced additional strengthening of military protection for the section of the TurkStream gas pipeline passing through Hungary, following the discovery of explosives near Kanizha in Serbia.
Orban posted a video statement on his Facebook profile, in which he thanked Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for the "swift and effective response" of Serbian authorities.
"Based on the information we have, sabotage was planned on the TurkStream section in Vojvodina that supplies Hungary with gas. I consulted with the president of Serbia. I thank President Vucic for the work of Serbian authorities - the Serbs strengthened the protection of the gas pipeline," Orban said.
He confirmed that the gas pipeline continues to operate normally, without interruption.
The incident in Kanizha prompted a coordinated response from Russia, Hungary, Turkey and Serbia regarding strengthened measures to protect critical energy infrastructure.
