Pentagon refuses to confirm US commitment to NATO collective defense

American Secretary of Defense Marco Rubio submitted a bill that would prevent President Donald Trump from withdrawing the US from NATO without Congressional approval.

The move came after the Pentagon refused to confirm America's commitment to NATO collective defense. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the final decision depends on President Trump.

"When we ask for additional help or simple access, basing and flyover, we encounter questions, obstacles, or reservations. An alliance has no strength when members prove unprepared to help when help is critical," Hegseth said.

The conflict with Iran sharpened US-European tensions. France denied Israel permission to use its airspace, Italy refused landing rights for American military aircraft at Sigonella, and Spain closed its airspace to American aircraft involved in operations against Iran.

Trump posted on social media: "You must learn to fight on your own. America will no longer help, just as you did not help us."
