A sixty-four-year-old resident of Radoviš has been detained on suspicion of starting the first major fire of the year on Plačkovica mountain, in which a forest and a weekend house were destroyed.

Police officers from the Strumica Regional Police Department detained suspect Z.K. on Thursday morning after he was found near the site where the fire broke out. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against him for the offense of creating a general danger.

The fire engulfed a forested area on Plačkovica and completely destroyed a weekend house in the vicinity. Firefighting crews intervened to contain the blaze and prevent further spread.

This is the first serious fire in the country this year, and authorities warn that the risk of fires increases significantly with the arrival of warmer days. They urge citizens to act responsibly and not to light fires in the open near forested areas.
