Russia is facing an unprecedented energy crisis as roughly 40% of its oil export capacity has been knocked offline, making it the worst disruption to Russian oil production and exports in modern history. The crisis has sent shockwaves through global energy markets.
The disruption stems from a combination of factors including infrastructure damage, sanctions enforcement, insurance restrictions on tanker fleets, and the severing of key logistics routes. The Caspian corridor disruption by Israeli strikes has further compounded the problem.
Global oil prices have surged in response, with Brent crude climbing above key psychological thresholds. Energy analysts warn that the loss of such a significant portion of Russian supply cannot be easily replaced in the short term, even with increased output from OPEC+ members.
The Kremlin acknowledged difficulties but insisted the situation is being managed and that alternative export routes are being developed. However, industry experts estimate it could take months to restore full capacity, during which time Russia faces massive revenue losses that will strain its ability to fund military operations and domestic programs.
