Shell CEO Warns: Europe Could Run Out of Fuel Within Weeks

Shell CEO Wael Sawan warned that Europe could face fuel shortages within weeks due to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East. Following Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, approximately one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas reserves are blocked in the Persian Gulf.

"Asia feels the burden first, then Southeast and Northeast Asia, and as April approaches - increasingly Europe as well," Sawan said.

Asian governments have already introduced emergency measures including a four-day work week and reduced air conditioning use. European authorities may need to adopt similar demand-reduction strategies - potentially including restrictions not seen since the 2022 energy crisis.

Oil and natural gas prices have risen by 40% and 60% respectively in the last four weeks. Asian nations are now competing with Europe for American energy exports.

British military sources indicate efforts to reopen the strait using drone technology on civilian vessels. Energy analysts characterize a serious shortage as a "worst-case but unlikely scenario," yet senior British sources confirm the scenario remains possible, warning that stratospheric energy prices could trigger household rationing by summer.
