The Macedonian capital Skopje is hosting a regional conference on higher education bringing together academics, policymakers, and education officials from across Southeast Europe to discuss challenges and opportunities facing universities in the region.

The conference agenda covers key topics including digital transformation of universities, alignment of curricula with labor market needs, cross-border academic cooperation, and the implementation of European higher education standards. Several panel discussions feature prominent education ministers and university rectors.

Macedonian education officials used the platform to highlight recent reforms aimed at improving the quality and international recognition of the country's higher education system. They emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in addressing common challenges such as brain drain and underfunding.

Participants noted that Southeast European universities face unique challenges including limited research funding, outdated infrastructure, and competition from Western European institutions that attract the region's top talent.
