A heavy snowfall has caused widespread chaos across Croatia, with road conditions deteriorating to the point where trucks are unable to make their way toward the Adriatic coast. Transportation authorities have issued emergency warnings and closed several key routes.
The unseasonable snow hit inland Croatia particularly hard, with accumulations exceeding expectations and overwhelming road maintenance crews. Major highways connecting the continental interior to the coastal regions were either closed or restricted to passenger vehicles with winter equipment only.
Supply chain disruptions are expected as commercial vehicles remain stranded at various points along the route network. Supermarkets and businesses in coastal cities reported concerns about potential shortages if the situation persists beyond the next 24 to 48 hours.
Croatian emergency services deployed additional resources to assist stranded motorists and clear priority routes. Weather forecasts suggest the snow should taper off within a day, though temperatures are expected to remain below freezing, creating dangerous icy conditions on roads throughout the region.
