A fierce storm hit the Kvarner region in Croatia, leaving behind destruction and closed roads. On the Krk Bridge, morning wind gusts of 160.2 kilometers per hour were measured - force equivalent to a hurricane.

The popular island of Krk is practically cut off from the mainland, and meteorologists warn that the peak of the storm is yet to come.

In Rijeka, material damage was reported, with the wind destroying a toll booth above the KBC Rijeka polyclinic.

"The phones won't stop ringing. The wind is intensifying, and our teams are on the ground removing fallen trees and traffic signs. This is a battle with nature," the fire service operations center stated.
