Skopje faces a serious problem with stray dogs that is becoming more alarming by the day. According to the latest data, the City of Skopje paid approximately 750,000 euros in damages in 2025 following 383 court rulings over attacks on citizens.

The victims are most often random passersby, including children, and the attacks occur in residential areas and near schools. Despite this, the response from the competent institutions remains inadequate, and the problem continues to deepen.

An additional alarm is the information that organized groups are dumping new, unsterilized dogs across Skopje, some of them even bearing foreign tags.

Although the Lajka shelter exists, it is clear that it is not enough to tackle the problem. The public is demanding urgent action - field inspections, controls, and identification of those deliberately worsening the situation.

Otherwise, Skopje will continue paying millions while citizens live in fear of daily attacks.
