Tempi railway disaster trial begins - 36 defendants

The trial for the Tempi railway disaster of February 28, 2023, one of Europe's worst railway tragedies, has begun in Larissa, Greece. The crash killed 57 people, most of them students.

A total of 36 defendants stand accused, including the station chief, 28 railway officials, and two ministry directors. The court is expected to hear 353 witnesses, and the process could last up to two years.

The defendants face possible life imprisonment. The victims' families declared: "This crime will not be hidden."
