US President Donald Trump stated that Iran's new leadership is "very reasonable" and that American and Iranian representatives have met "directly and indirectly."
At the same time, Trump reiterated that seizing Iranian oil is his "preferred option," adding that he is convinced the US-Israeli military action led to regime change in Iran.
"I would have seized Iranian oil, that is my preferred option. But some stupid people in the US are asking why," Trump said, suggesting he is considering seizing the strategic island of Kharg.
The contradictory statements - describing Iran's leadership as reasonable on one hand while threatening to seize oil resources on the other - are confusing diplomats and complicating the already tense ceasefire negotiations.
