Growing rift between Trump and Netanyahu - different goals in the war with Iran

Relations between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are showing signs of a rift as the conflict with Iran enters its third week, with growing differences in military objectives and risk tolerance.

While Washington focuses almost exclusively on military targets, Israel is carrying out assassinations of senior officials and operations that could enable regime change in Tehran. Several Trump advisers believe he will want to conclude major military operations before Netanyahu does.

A clear dispute arose when Israel bombed Iranian oil depots. American officials differently prioritize the stability of the global oil market. The White House asked Israel to refrain from attacks on oil targets without explicit approval from Washington.

"Israel does not hate chaos. We do. We want stability. Netanyahu? Not so much, especially when it comes to Iran," said a White House official.

After yesterday"s attack on South Pars, Trump publicly claimed that America had not been informed, but sources say the president knew in advance and approved the operation. A senior Trump adviser admitted: "We are aware this looks like we are working for Israel. We are not. But we acknowledge that impression."
