US President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States are prepared to send naval vessels to protect oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, in response to Iran's tightened threats in the region.

"Regardless of anything, the United States will ensure a free flow of energy to the world," Trump stated. The US International Development Finance Corporation will provide financial guarantees for maritime trade in the Persian Gulf.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards simultaneously declared full control over the Strait of Hormuz. "The Strait of Hormuz is under complete control of the Islamic Republic's navy," a Guards spokesperson stated, adding a warning that any vessel daring to pass risks attack by missiles or drones.

The Strait of Hormuz is only 160 kilometres long and 39 kilometres wide at its narrowest point, yet it carries enormous strategic importance — through it passes approximately 20 per cent of global trade in oil and natural gas. Countries such as the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar rely exclusively on it for exports.

Trump acknowledged that oil prices in the short term could continue to rise, but believes the stabilisation of the situation will bring them down. Analysts warn that only a clear de-escalation can prevent further growth in oil prices on global markets.
