March 17 was the deadliest day for Russia in 2026, with over 1,700 soldiers killed or wounded in just 24 hours. Ukrainian drones were responsible for approximately half of the casualties.

Russian forces attempted an infantry advance using motorcycles and horses under fog cover near Zaporizhzhia but were decimated. A total of 29 artillery systems and 230 fuel vehicles were destroyed.

Peace talks remain stalled as the United States shifts its focus to the Middle East.
