Ukrainian drones landed on Finnish territory, provoking a sharp reaction from Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, who described the incident as "a violation of territorial integrity and an exceptionally serious matter".

The investigation into the origin of the drones is ongoing, but authorities believe they are Ukrainian drones that veered off course. Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen confirmed that the unmanned aircraft entered Finnish airspace.

Two unmanned aircraft were detected over southeastern Finland on Sunday morning. One landed north of the city of Kouvola, and the other to the east. The Finnish military air force urgently scrambled F/A-18 Hornet fighters to identify the objects.

This is the latest in a series of incidents affecting Baltic NATO members. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania reported similar drone incursions earlier this week. Ukraine has recently intensified drone strikes on Russian refineries and energy infrastructure, while peace negotiations have stalled.
