The US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was hit by an unmanned drone in the early morning hours of 3 March 2026. A fire broke out in the building, but was contained in scope — there were no casualties, as the building was not occupied at the time of the attack.

President Donald Trump reacted quickly and promised a decisive and swift response, describing the attack as a direct strike against American sovereignty. It is not yet clear when and in what manner the promised retaliation will be carried out.

The attack on the representation in Riyadh is part of a broader series of Iranian drone and rocket strikes targeting countries around the Persian Gulf that host American military bases. The attacks came as part of the air-military operations by the US and Israel against Iranian targets.

The embassy did not suffer structural damage and the material damage is minimal. However, the attack represents a significant escalation — for the first time, a US diplomatic mission in the region was directly struck. Simultaneously with the Riyadh attack, Israel launched new strikes against targets in Lebanon and Iran.
