American aircraft continue to be lost in the region of the Strait of Hormuz. An American A-10 Thunderbolt went down near the Strait - Iranian media claim their air defense systems shot it down, while the US side says the pilot was rescued.

The same day an American F-15 was also downed over Iranian territory. Both crew members ejected - one was rescued in an operation involving two American helicopters which then landed on Iraqi territory. The second pilot is still missing.

American special forces entered Iranian territory in search of the pilot. President Trump declined to comment. Iran has offered a reward of $60,000 for information about the pilot.

The A-10 Thunderbolt is a well-known close air support aircraft, nicknamed the "tank killer". The Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed to international shipping.
