An appeals court has overturned the prison sentence handed down to Dimova, ordering a retrial in a case that has drawn significant public attention and debate.
The three-judge panel found that the lower court committed procedural errors during the original trial that materially affected the outcome. The appeals court ruled that key evidence was improperly admitted and that the defense was not given adequate opportunity to challenge prosecution witnesses.
"The right to a fair trial is fundamental, and the errors identified in this case are too significant to overlook," the presiding judge stated in the ruling.
The prosecution expressed disappointment with the decision but confirmed it would prepare for a retrial. Dimova\'s legal team welcomed the ruling, calling it a vindication of their client\'s rights.
The case is expected to be reassigned to a different judge for the new proceedings, which could begin within several months.
