Students took to the streets demanding the right to take the judicial exam in Albanian, while the Ministry of Justice accused protest organizers of manipulating the issue for political purposes.
Dozens of law students gathered in front of the ministry building, holding signs and chanting slogans calling for equal access to the legal profession regardless of language. The protesters argue that the current requirement to take the exam exclusively in Macedonian puts Albanian-speaking candidates at a significant disadvantage.
"We studied law for years, we know the material, but we are being denied a fair chance because of the language barrier," said one of the protest organizers. "This is a matter of basic rights."
The Ministry of Justice responded by accusing certain political actors of orchestrating the protest to create ethnic tensions. "The exam tests legal knowledge, not language skills," a ministry spokesperson said. "This issue is being deliberately manipulated."
The debate touches on the broader question of language rights in Macedonia, a sensitive topic in a country where Albanians make up roughly a quarter of the population. Legal experts say the issue requires careful consideration of both constitutional provisions and practical realities.
