During the past week (February 16-22), the Institute of Public Health of Macedonia recorded 1,113 new flu cases, representing a 3.2 percent decrease compared to the previous week. However, health authorities are warning citizens that the situation is still not fully under control.

The highest incidence rate was registered among the youngest age group - children under four years old, although in absolute numbers more cases were recorded among the adult population. By age structure: 621 cases among persons aged 15-64, 185 among children aged 5-14, 164 among children under 4, and 143 among persons older than 65.

Geographically, Skopje leads with 669 reported cases, followed by Strumica with 81 and Prilep with 61 cases. Reports come from a total of 21 health centers across the country. Several municipalities reported no cases during the past week.

Since the beginning of the 2025/2026 season, a total of 14,984 flu cases have been recorded in Macedonia. A total of 79,118 citizens have been vaccinated against seasonal flu, although interest in vaccination remains below recommended levels.

Health authorities are urging citizens to continue adhering to personal hygiene measures and to protect the most vulnerable groups, especially young children and elderly persons, who show the highest rate of complications from flu infection.
