Iran's ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Ali Bahrini, warned that any military base "used for attacks against Iran", including those on European territory, can become a legitimate target for Iranian armed forces.

"To be clear: our military forces have already declared a policy under which any facility or base used to attack Iran will be a legitimate target," Bahrini stated. Asked whether this applies to bases in Europe, he replied that Iran will defend itself "with all necessary means" and "in accordance with what is necessary to ensure there is no aggression against our country".

The ambassador rejected accusations that Iran is attacking civilian targets in the Persian Gulf, claiming that Iranian forces target only military facilities that the US uses against Tehran.

Iranian officials warn that control of the Strait of Hormuz can drive oil prices up to 200 dollars per barrel, although analysts note that such a move would have severe global economic consequences.
