The lawyer who exposed the pardon scandal: Magyar's victory is not enough

An anonymous lawyer known as the Provincial Lawyer (Vidéki Prókator) sent a message to Tisza leader Péter Magyar, warning that victory alone is not enough for meaningful change in Hungary.

This lawyer became famous after revealing court documents showing that former president Katalin Novák had pardoned a convicted assistant director of a children's home in Bicske. Endre K. had helped a pedophile director and forced abused children to retract their statements.

The revelation that authorities who claimed to protect "Christian values" and child protection had secretly freed an accomplice in abuse triggered the largest protests in Budapest in the last fourteen years.

The consequences of the scandal were enormous: President Novák resigned, Justice Minister Judit Varga withdrew from public life, and Bishop Zoltán Balog lost his political power.

Magyar, Varga's former husband, capitalized on the public outrage and founded the Tisza party. The Provincial Lawyer, who described Magyar as a "political genius," warns that "every demolition that only destroys without simultaneously creating inevitably leads to the restoration of the old order."
